As I have been going through the questionnaires and reading stories of women with IC, one of the things that truely saddens me is that it seems a lot of doctors are telling women that they can not have a cerclage due to protruding/bulging membranes. This is simply false!!! They had to push my membranes back up before putting in my cerclage. Yes there is a risk of rupture, but some chance is better than doing nothing. I had a successful rescue cerclage at 4cm w/ bulging membranes. I just want to make sure that anyone researching the facts about IC knows this can be done.
You can have a cerclage with bulging membranes!
You can have a cerclage at 4cm.
Your cerclage does not have to be removed if your membranes rupture AFTER the cerclage is placed. If this happens you should be placed in the hospital on IV antibiotics to prevent infection. The cerclage should stay in UNLESS you get an infection.

My doctor wasn't able to simply push my membranes back in...instead, he used an amniocentesis needle (through my belly, like a regular amniocentesis) to draw out enough fluid to make it possible.
My take on it is this: will you ever regret trying everything possible to save your baby?

I think it's so unfair that doctors are not willing to try and do anything to help us save our babies. It's such a helpless feeling when someone else pretty much has control over whether your baby may have a chance at survival. And although because I am a person of faith, I believe our destiny is part of a larger plan, I think it would have given me some measure of comfort to know that everything humanly possible to try and save Brady had been done.
I was told that because my membranes had ruptured that there was nothing at all that could be done, besides bedrest. I felt so frustrated and helpless.
I think that Viv and Laura ae awesome for creating this site, it seems like IC is a "forbidden" topic regarding pregnancy, so even if only one person can be reached in time to know what to do to give her baby a fighting chance, then I think it's just great!!
