Hello, I am new here. I am a mother of 4 two in heaven and 2 here on earth. I am always wondering how to address this question when someone asks how many kids do you have?
My story: I had my first daughter at 21 weeks when I first found out that I have a incompetent cervix. One morning I woke up thinking that I had to go to the restroom and half way there to pee, my water broke. I went to the hospital to be told that yes it was my bags of water that broke and that I was 4 cm dilated. she wasn't sure if my water broke first and then I dilated or if it was the other way around, either way i was going to have the baby soon. ( I didn't have any kind of contractions or anything at this point). I was then told that they were going to induce labor and that I was going to have the baby soon. I told them that I didn't want to be induced and that I wanted to wait to see if my labor would start on its own and that is what we did we waited. I was allowed to go home with a home health nurse who visited every day and was told of the risks of waiting and took those risk. unfortunately after a week my back begin to hurt and I started feeling pelvic pressure and then went to the hospital and we delivered a baby girl that night. She lived for 22 min and was named Dedria Ollie Elizabeth Nicole.
My next attempt: I found out that I was pregnant 3 months after the death of our daughter. We were excited but scared also. At a visit with the perinatologist we were told that the baby was not measuring as it should and that I would probably miscarry. In which I did 3 weeks later.
At this point we wondered were we meant to have a baby, Why are we having so many problems, what did I do, what can I do. then 4 months later we found that I was pregnant again. we was filled with so much hope but also fear. what if I don't carry this one. we were on eggs until the ultrasound. I went in to have my cerclage placed at 13 weeks (McDonald), everything was going OK until my cervix started to shortened. I went on bed rest at 20 weeks at home. I thought OK, I can handle this. Then when I started to get the hang of the whole bed rest thing I went to my Dr. appt and found out that part of my bags of water was protruding through the cerclage and that I was going to be put on complete bedrest at the hospital in trendleburg position ( feet higher than head). I was in that position for 4 weeks until my water finally broke and I had my daughter Kamaris at 26 weeks. She weighed 1 lb and 13.5 oz. she stayed in the nicu for 10 weeks and now she is a healthy 7 year old.
We figured that we would try again so 2 years later we tried again. the first part of this pregnancy was kind of the same as for i had more nausea and vomiting which then turned to hyperemesis gravadurium ( excessive vomiting during pregnancy) and also I had a bout of bleeding which they said looked like some of placenta tried to come detached but it was OK. My cerclage was placed at 14 weeks. at 20 weeks I had funneled down to the cerclage and was placed on bedrest, which agian was fine because I new what to expect and I was just happy to be at home. then at 28 weeks they suspected that I had pregnancy induced hypertension, and that the baby was not measuring like it should. I then started biweekly non stress testing and weekly u/s. at about 30 weeks we found that the fluid around the baby was decreasing. at 32 weeks because all that was going on with the fluid around the baby decreasing and the fact that I was still vomiting I was then placed on bed rest at the hospital with day nst . by the end of the week the Dr came in and said that the fluid around the baby was too low and that we were going to have a baby tomorrow. The next day my cerclage was cut out . I only dilated to .5 cm. I stayed that way for 8 hrs at that time the baby heart rate kept dropping they then decided to go on and do a c-section. My son Keith was born at 33 weeks and weighed 3 lbs and 8 oz. He stayed in the hospital for 2 weeks. he is now a healthy 4 yr old. :)
I would love to have maybe one more but I am kind of scared. What if I have all of those problems again, what if the cerclage doesn't work as good, because they said that the reason that I may have not dilated is because of some scaring on my cervix.
I don't know. has anyone ever felt like they they are not whole because they have not ever gotten to experience real labor and go the whole 9 months with the big belly and all.
I just wished I could have a experienced the whole 9 months of pregnancy and have a full term baby.
Has any one had to be on bed rest with their cerclage and funneled down to their stitch, then the second or third time around have a cerclage and not have to be on bed rest?
