Hello Everyone
My name is Stephanie and I'm new to the board ... I don't really post to message boards just love to read them but my heart led me to share my experience with you ladies. I have lost 4 kids, almost a 5th due to a crummy cervix (IC). My first baby I lost at 16 wks, 2nd Baby (Twins) lost at 17 wks, 3rd baby lost at 21.5 weeks ... I must say that all my losses hurt my heart and caused me to build a wall of fear for any future pregnancies. All of my stories are tragedies so I don't want to dwell too much on those but I do want to give you ladies hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Well, I must say that GOD is good. On 10/28/02 I gave birth to my son who is now 3. He was born at 30 wks. Before getting my cerclage I had one bad experience which was I went to the bathroom and all this blood was gushing out of me ... again I thought I was going to lose my baby however that was just the baby attaching itself to my uterus ...
My last pregnancy which was my son I got a cerclage at 11 or 12 wks. I was put on modified bed rest, and everything was going ok. At this time I was planning a 8/24 wedding, so I was under stress mainly with praying I finally have a baby and that my wedding turned out how I envisioned it. Long to short the wedding was beautiful, I did not do everything all brides do but I did enough. Well, on 9/5 I went to the doctor for a sonogram checkup and the head DR of the Maternal Fetal Dept. is checking me and goes everything looks good, and than says oh wait a minute....Those are words women like us don't want to hear.
Well, come to find out my membranes had come through the stitch and were bulging out. After my primary doctors who were highly reputable and the chief DR had a discussion they decided they were going to attempt to give me a double stitch but could not make promises because my water could break, or if an infection occurred they would have to take the baby. The first 24 hrs went well, and then I went into labor. They gave me shots to stop the labor and put me on Magnesium Sulfate ... that stuff was my best friend. I was then put on strict bed rest and my pregnancy was an if we could get to the next day kind of thing because the goal was to get me to at least 24 weeks. Well, 24, 25, 26, etc., weeks came and went and I was still hanging in there. Everyday my Drs. would check on me and be so happy that we got through another week. Now take in account I could not pee, poop, or do anything out of the bed. I got a few infections during my hospital stay (kidney stones, bladder infections, etc.). During this time I say around 26wks I was told I had too much amniotic fluid and my baby may not have a brain, or something was wrong with the heart. So again if it wasn't one thing it was another.
Well, at 28 weeks I finally got bathroom privileges, and it felt good to stand up and not be able to see my feet. The Drs. called me a unique case and of course I am a study and everyone at the hospital admired me for my strength because at the time I was 24. I'm currently in the ob/gyn magazine that they hand out to patients because I was such a trooper. My water broker when I was 30 wks and 3 days pregnant. Once your water breaks you have to get the stitch taken out, so I was given anther round of steroids, my first was when I went into labor after the 2nd stitch. I went into labor approx. 48 hrs after the last steroid shot and delivered the baby in 12 hrs. The funny thing is after like 3 cm my cervix did not want to budge. My DR says how could someone with an IC not dilate. I told you I'm a unique case....
My point is just imagine going into the hospital with a summer dress, leaving with a winter coat, getting blood drawn everyday, IV's changed every 3 days. I spent my birthday in the hospital. I was to the point where I had no more blood to give and they were considering putting a line to my heart to get blood at that point which was at around 30 wks, I felt enough was enough. God felt that way too because my son came into the world at 30 wks and only stayed in NICU for 3wks and 6 days. GOD IS GOOD!!!!!!!!! Ladies don't give up and don't complain if you want a baby you have to do whatever it takes and if that means giving up your life for 9mths do it, because the love I get from my son makes me look at all these little marks on my arms and hands and know it was totally worth it. I was literally in the hospital for 2 months to the day. Not all people can do this but I had a strong desire for a child. I will keep all you in my prayers, and I hope to try again in the future.
Please forgive me for typos, grammar, etc. I just felt to tell my story and my story is so long that I had to shorten it to the best of my ability....
