I've only had one successful pregnancy and that was with a rescue cerclage placed at 24 weeks. I made it to 36 weeks.
Did you have a cerclage with your 18 month old?
I'm currently trying for #2 and I wonder if I'll have a "normal" pregnancy without bedrest and what I will do if I have to go on bedrest with a toddler. I feel for you.
I know that many women have shortening and funnelling despite the cerclage and make it to term. Most of the people I have spoken with that had a preventative cerclage went on to deliver at or close to term (even overdue) despite shortening and funnelling unless there were other factors involved such as infection or true PTL.

Hello! I hope all goes well with your baby #2 trying. It can be fun, if your not to stressed about it. Im 28 weeks (after my doc adjusted my due date) and I had a ffn test that came back neg for preterm labor. I failed my gestational diabetes test! I have to get the 3 hour test now. no fun! Im on terbutaline 2.5 mgs. and it has helped. When I got pregnant with my second girl it was not bad! My little one was only 9 months when I concieved lily so as you can see, my ella was still a baby herself. She would snuggle up a lot. She was to young to color an such, but she was a movie watcher. I would even take naps with her. For some reason my pregnancy went well, and I had a cerclage @ 12 weeks, projesterone @16weeks-35 weeks, no major shortening of my cervix, and she came 1 day shy of 39 weeks. I was actually induced because of my high blood pressure.
My first girl, Ella was going well, until 22 weeks. At a check up they noticed a short and funnelling cervix. I probably put myself in labor with the stress. They gave me an emergency cerclage at 22 weeks and total bedrest. Looking back it was EASY without kids, but my house went to pot, my kitchen was a dump, and I felt helpless. I had a lot of support from friends and family. My aunt sent a big package of gifts to open ( 1 each day) to cheer me up. People made meals and I eventually hired a house cleaner. Ella came @ 33 weeks. They cheked me at the hospital and I was dialating with my stitch in place, when they cut it out I was @ a 4 cm dialated! Ella was born 5 lb. 7 oz. 10 days in nicu and eventually nursed after 8 weeks. (I pumped for 8 weeks!) Im glad I went to the hospital when I did. Because I was just feeling a little sick, and I had a 8 contractions in 1 hour. She is totally fine with NO sighns of born to early. The nicu time was very hard, and I almost got in a fight with a nurse! But things all worked out well in the end. My first pregnancy was a boy. Everything was fine up until my 18th week. I had been feeling a lot of back pain, and tons of braxton hicks for a week. It being my first pregnancy, I didnt know that was not good. I finally went in to the doctor, and I was dubbled over in pain. They thought I may have a kidney stone by the looks of me. By the time they got me on the table and examined me they noticed I was 2 cm dialated, and in labor. needless to say, after 2 days and abulging water sac, the labor progressed to deliver a baby at 18 weeks,9 oz. 9 inches. At first they seemed so hopeful. They talked of cerclage, and eventually they gave up when they realized the contractions were not stoping. He looked like my husband, that's for sure. His skin was dark and sticky. his ears were underdeveloped, but he looked like a complete miniture baby. I think of what he would have been, what he could have accomplished, who he would have looked like, what his favorite food would have been and so forth. I was angry, and disopointed at God, but 7 months of prayer, and prayers for me, I came to realize the sovernty of God. He loves me. And why not me? In a world with death, disease, pain and so forth, I thought why not me? I just decided from that point, I would allow myself to go through the process, allow people to say the wrong thing to me, and not get angry, (like ie you can always get pregnant again...) I began to allow God to be God, and me to accept what comes my way and trust Gods word to be true, and know he has plans to make my life worthy and fulfilled. I got pregnant 1 month latter after I mentally recovered. I always think of him, and love Him. I will meet him face to face in heaven one of these days. One thing I have learned is that you can't plan to much, because we cant see the future. If your blessed with a nother pregnancy the last thing you should do is worry how it will all work out. My girls may not go out to the park or play dates like we had been doing, but now they have my full attention, Im their audience. Be creative and take advantage of the time with them. They dont notice what they dont get, they notice what time they do get with you. Best advice, dont stress! Anne
